Innovation is central to the Shackleton DNA, ensuring we remain a leading name in function-first extreme-weather outerwear.
Shackleton designs are steered by purpose and performance. With all of our outerwear and knitwear, we engineer to a performance standard rather than a price point and each piece must tick the boxes of efficiency, practicality and comfort. These properties are as relevant to the barren expanses of Antarctica as they are the frozen streets of New York City in winter. Our apparel is designed to be highly-competent in cold conditions, while luxury refinement provides day-to-day style and confidence in quality.
From the first stages of all our development, we spend a huge amount of time scrutinising materials, fabrics and technologies, working with only the very best for use in extreme conditions. Every aspect of our apparel is considered, without compromise, from the shell construction right down to the snaps and zips.
MATERIALS & FABRICS
Graphene… is a single atomic layer of graphite, tightly organised into a hexagonal lattice. It is the lightest, strongest, most conductive material ever discovered. It has a wealth of technical properties when incorporated within performance apparel, making it incredibly intricate to work with. Graphene transports heat around the body, regulating core temperature – it keeps the wearer warm when it's cold and then cools when it's hot. It also reduces humidity, is anti-microbial, anti-radiation and anti-UV.
This features in the FH-4 Photographer's Parka, Pilot Jacket and Vincent Baselayer.
Synthetic Fur Ruffs… line the hoods of all our parkas. Shackleton is a fur-free brand. This synthetic fur is a result of many years of Italian research and development. Our decision to move away from coyote fur is indicative of our ethos towards sustainability and the ethical sourcing of all materials used by Shackleton.

European Goose Down… is recognised as a far more effective and efficient insulator than synthetics, providing approximately three times the warmth per ounce. The down used in our jackets is all RDS-certified. Each baffle is filled by hand to ensure a premium level of lofting and comfort. This quality of down means parkas are ultra-light and can be compressed into easily-transportable stuff bags.
This features in the Endurance Down Parka, FH-4 Photographer's Parka, Pilot Jacket, Wild Jacket and Fortuna Gilet.
Cordura… is the toughest canvas fabric money can buy. Tear resistant and extremely hard-wearing, it is widely used in army clothing and equipment. We use Cordura on our jackets as they are built for use and longevity.

Geelong Lambswool… is comparable to cashmere in its warmth, softness and luxurious touch. It is produced from a species of Merino sheep, which lives in Australia, and is one of the most sought-after wools in the world.
This features in the Hero Rollneck Sweater.
Merino Wool… has a number of properties that make it great for performance. It is warm, durable, water repellent, fast drying and naturally insulating. It can hold up to 30% of its weight in water yet remain dry to the touch.
This features in the Vincent Baselayer, Nelson Baselayer and Marston Quarter-Zip.
Swiss 3-Layer Fabric… outer shell is waterproof, abrasion-resistant and pliable. As a result it offers superior protection and manoeuvrability.
This features in the Pilot Jacket.
