Discover What You're Made Of
Shackleton has joined forces with extreme travel specialists Pelorus to offer a truly epic expedition adventure: a 4 week, 570km traverse of Greenland, led by record-breaking Polar explorer & Shackleton pioneer, Captain Lou Rudd MBE.
In August 2019, a maximum of 6 adventurers will take to the frozen landscape of the Greenland ice cap on skis and complete a full east-west traverse, pulling all their food and supplies with them. They’ll witness incredible scenery, learn from a polar explorer with 30 years of experience and test mind and body against some of the most extreme and awe-inspiring conditions on the planet.
Our partner, Pelorus is a world-class adventure travel specialist that curates personalised adventures and ultra-travel experiences in extreme environments around the globe; from jungles, deserts and mountains to icy steppes. Their team's expertise in ops, logistics, and risk management has been tested and proven the world over.
This project truly is one-of-a-kind as the participants will be guided by the man who has trekked the most Antarctic miles in human history. On 28th December 2018, Lou set two records upon the completion of his Spirit of Endurance expedition, becoming the first Briton to cross Antarctica solo, unsupported and unassisted and the first person ever to cross the hostile environment of the planet’s southernmost continent twice. Qualified as a military ski instructor and Arctic warfare instructor, Lou is a man truly at home in the coldest places on earth.
The trip begins with a flight from Reykjavik, Iceland, to the settlement of Kulusuk on the Eastern coast of Greenland. From there, a maximum of just six participants will fly to Tasiilaq by helicopter, where final preparations will be made prior to a stunningly beautiful boat journey past the icebergs and islets of Greenland’s east coast, to the start point at Isortoq where the real adventure begins. With Lou leading the team across terrain that is as remarkably beautiful as it is challenging, you will embark on a 4 week (approximate) ski trek across the entirety of the Greenland ice cap. Encountering spectacular Arctic scenery throughout, the trip offers the chance to immerse oneself in a true wilderness and make a journey that only a tiny number of humans have made in all of history.
There are few opportunities that can genuinely be described as once-in-a-lifetime. If you are suitably inspired to join Lou and the Shackleton team on this epic expedition, please contact email@example.com to find out more.
