Spirit of Endurance Expedition on HBO Documentary
On 28th December 2018, after 56 days alone, Shackleton pioneer Cpt Lou Rudd MBE, achieved two world firsts through his epic solo, unassisted and unsupported crossing of Antarctica. Lou’s incredible achievement received incredible coverage across the globe with media outlets thrilling the public with daily reports of this great endeavour during treacherous conditions on the planet’s most hostile continent.
The extent of Lou’s feat has now been recognised by US network HBO, creators of such groundbreaking shows as Game of Thrones and True Detective, who have featured his journey on the award winning ‘Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel’.
The show delves into the less well known side of sporting achievements, covering areas that would not typically be aired by investigative sports journalists and with no less than 32 Sports Emmy Awards under its belt, boasts the achievement of being TV's most-honoured sports journalism show.
Lou spent time with Mr Gumbel and the HBO team at his home in England, discussing his time in Antarctica, where he achieved something that eluded his hero, Sir Ernest Shackleton.
During the show Lou discusses all aspects of his expedition and exclusively reveals the enormity of the challenge, the day to day hardships, the impact on his body and mind and the psychological effect of the presence of American Colin O’Brady attempting the very same record.
The documentary will premiere on Tuesday 26th February and will be available to watch across the HBO network throughout March.
