Louis Rudd appointed Director of Expeditions
We are delighted to announce that polar explorer Captain Louis Rudd MBE has joined the Shackleton team as Director of Expeditions. In doing so, we combine our innovation within performance apparel with incredibly intimate knowledge of conditions in the most extreme environments on earth.
We started working with Louis in 2017, ultimately leading to Shackleton sponsoring his 2018/19 Spirit of Endurance Expedition, in which he set out on a solo, unsupported traverse of Antarctica.
He was successful in his mission; a gruelling journey of 920 miles over 56 days, tackling the brutal conditions of the frozen continent and the mental demands of pushing the limits in such stark isolation. As the first Briton to ever achieve the feat, Louis cemented his place as one of the most decorated polar explorers of all time – he is the only person to have traversed Antarctica on foot twice.
Louis’ achievements in polar regions, coupled with over 30 years of military service, bring unparalleled experience to this exciting position. As Director of Expeditions, he will assist in product design, development and field testing. He will also lead a handful of expeditions every year, inviting a select team to experience our apparel in challenging regions that have captivated explorers for centuries.
